Welcome to WCC

Woodbridge Chamber Concerts (WCC) held its inaugural concerts in the summer of 2008, in St Mary’s Parish Church in Woodbridge, which is a traditional market town in Suffolk. Following their success in both 2008 and 2009, a series of three concerts is now arranged each year. In future these will take place on the last Saturday in May and the first Saturday in June, with an additional Friday concert being added to one of these weekends.

WCC’s principal aim is to give performance opportunities to young professional musicians at the start of their careers as well as setting the concerts in the beautiful and historic church of St Marys in the centre of the town. Details of the 2010 concerts are below.

Friday 7th May 2010

The Appassionata Piano Trio from the Royal College of Music with Sophie Stanley Viola, played works by Bridge, Schumann and Brahms

This was preceded by a workshop taken by these young musicians at Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge, where a large number of its players performed some of the Frank Bridge Miniatures with them. Following the workshop, there was a discussion on music courses at the RCM and also life as a music student. This was a very successful collaboration and WCC hopes to build on this educational link in future years. Students were given free seats to the evening’s performance.

Saturday 5th June 2010

The Heath Quartet performed Beethoven’s masterpiece, his String Quartet in E flat op. 127, the first of his final set of quartets, followed by Schubert’s sublime String Quintet in C major D.956 with the cellist Philip Higham joining them. This was played to a packed church.
