Past Concerts

Two concerts were held on the theme Exploring The Connections; the first between Haydn and Mozart which was performed by the Brodowski Quartet and the second between Ravel and Vaughan Williams with the Carducci Quartet, the pianist Nicola Eimer and the tenor Nathan Vale. This concert was arranged to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Vaughan Williams in August 1958.

Following their success the previous year, the Brodowski Quartet returned to WCC in 2009 to perform works by Haydn Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. To celebrate the bicentenary of his birth they played Mendelssohn's last string quartet. The highly praised Heath Quartet performed works by Haydn and Janàcek and were joined in the second half of the concert by Tom Lessels in a performance of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet.

As a result of the success of the previous two seasons, three concerts were planned for 2010. The Appassionata Piano Trio with Sophie Stanley viola, graduates of the Royal College of Music, gave a concert of works by Bridge, Schumann and Brahms. The second concert featured one of WCC's patrons, the pianist, Iain Burnside with the award winning singers, Natalya Romaniw soprano and Gary Griffiths baritone. The evening was devoted to twentieth century English song. For the final concert in the 2010 series, the Heath Qaurtet returned to play Beethoven's String Quartet in E flat Op. 127 and with the cellist Philip Higham, performed Schubert's String Quartet in C major D.956. This concert was performed to a packed church.
