Biographies

 The Appassionata Piano Trio

 

 

 2010The Trio formed their partnership at the Royal College of Music and display a real passion and commitment to chamber music. Individually they have won prizes in international competitions as well as awards to study with acclaimed teachers and professional artists.

 Sophie Stanley

 

 2010

Sophie is a keen chamber musician, and in March 2008 won the Gerard Heller and Rosemary Rappaport Intercollegiate Quartet competition. She has also taken part in masterclasses with the Navarra, Bochmann, Chillingirian, Vermeer and Keller Quartets. She made her Wigmore Hall debut last June, performing with Natalie Clein and Jennifer Stumm.

Iain Burnside

 

 2010

Iain interweaves his work as a Sony award winning Radio 3 presenter with his role as a distinguished accompanist. His recordings cover a wide range of interests with a special affection for English song. He has worked with Ann Murray, Lisa Milne, Mark Padmore, and Bryn Terfel. His recordings of Finzi and Vaughan Williams with the baritone Roddy Williams for Naxos and the RVW Society Albion label, have been received to great acclaim.

Natalya Romaniw 

 

 2010

Natalya hails from Swansea. She has appeared at the Brangwyn and Barbican Halls as well as LSO St Lukes. She has performed with Graham Johnson and  took part in ‘The Lads In Their Hundreds ‘an anthology of songs linked to the First World War and compiled by Iain Burnside. She was a Song Prize Finalist in the Cardiff Singer Of The World Competition in 2009 and appeared on BBC 4.

 Gary Griffiths

 

 

 2010Born in South Wales, Gary is the winner of the coveted Guildhall School of Music Gold Medal. He also won the Young Welsh Singer Of the Year Competition. He has performed at many of the UK’s major venues including the Wigmore and Barbican Halls and The Sage Gateshead. Future plans include a concert with Sir David Willcocks in the Royal Albert Hall and a recital with Sir Thomas Allen at the Wigmore Hall.

 The Heath Quartet

 

2009, 2010The Heath Quartet won the First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Tromp International Festival in Hollland and Second Prize in the Haydn International Competition in Vienna. Future plans include recitals in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. The Heath Quartet is making its second visit to the Woodbridge Chamber Concerts after its hugely successful concert last year.

 Philip Higham

 

2010  

Philip Higham won First Prize in both the Leipzig Bach and Warsaw Lutoslawski Cello Competitions. He has studied with Ralph Kirschbaum and is currently performing throughout the UK.

 

Philip is now an artist with the Young Concert Artist Trust (YCAT).

The Brodowski Quartet

 

2008, 2009

After a stunning performance at the inaugural concert last year, the Quartet returned to perform for WCC in 2009, prior to a June recital in the Wigmore Hall. Prize winners of the 2008 Royal Overseas League, the Quartet was also selected as Park Lane Group Artists following a critically acclaimed recital at the South Bank Centre. They have also travelled extensively in Europe and the USA.

Thomas Lessels

 

 

2009

After studying the clarinet at Birmingham Conservatory, Tom became principal clarinet with the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2004-7. He now plays with the European Chamber Players and the Ossian Ensemble, who have recently worked with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Thomas Ades. Tom has won many prizes and awards including the Royal Academy of Music Clarinet Prize and  the Harold Craxton Chamber Music Prize.

The Carducci Quartet

 

2008 

The Carducci Quartet has won no less than seven international competitions including, in 2008, the prestigious New York Concert Artists Guild, which has launched their career in America. The Carducci Quartet gave superb performances of Vaughan Williams first Quartet and Ravel's Quartet in F.

Nicola Eimer

 

2008 

Nicola Eimer studied at the Juilliard School in New York and won first prize in the Royal Overseas League Piano Competition in 2005. Nicola has performed in Europe, America, Australia and Japan as well as at St. Martin in the Fields, the Barbican and the Wigmore Hall.

Nathan Vale 

 

2008

Winner of the AESS English Song Competition, Nathan has performed regularly in the main London concert venues, the Bath Festival and Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.
